ANTI-COMPETITION IN THE PHIL. SUPERMARKET INDUSTRY

The Phil. Competition Commission hosts a forum on Anti-Competition in d Supermarket Industry on 9 August 2019 at the Phil. Competition Commission’s Board Room on the 25/F of Vertis North Corporate Center Tower 1 along North Avenue, QC.  PIDS Pres. Celia M. Reyes extended the invitation while LaSalle’s economist Mitzie Irene Conchada presented the growth of the biggest supermarket chains in the country and how it may be affecting the fair competition amongst industry members.

PLANNING FOR SUPERMARKET BREAK-OUT SESSION 2018

PRA called a meeting with PAGASA and A.C. Nielsen to discuss the topics and speakers for the Supermarket Break-out Session at this year’s National Retail Conf. & Exhibition to be held in August at the SMX in Pasay City. The lunch meeting was held at the Golden Cowrie Resto inside the new Podium at Ortigas Center.  Meeting was held on 5 April 2018 with (clockwise) STC, PRA Asst. Sec.- Gen. Bing Miranda, PRA Sec.-Gen. Evelyn Balmeo-Salire, Supermarket Track Leader Aira V., A.C. Nielsen’s Maria Angelica Carolina and its Managing Director Patrick Cua. STC broached the idea of bringing in Mr. Chilam from Beijing (whom he just met in Chiba, Japan recently) as this young guy was operating unmanned supermarkets relatively successfully. He is spreading his idea now to his partners in Japan, Taiwan and Korea.

SUPERMARKET TOUR FOR FOREIGN GUESTS AT IFEX 2017

On 21 May 2017, PAGASA volunteered to host the Supermarket Tour for foreign buyers/exhibitors at the well-attended IFEX 2017. Participants were limited to 30 and were broken down into four groups handled by PAGASA Pres. STC (Welcome), VP Liansel Sy (Liana’s), Treasurer Myke Teodoro (Velamart) and Active Member Charlene Lim (JC Plaza).  Attendees hailed from Mexico, the U.S., Argentina, Ukraine, Belgium, Cambodia, Japan, China, Malaysia, Israel and other countries interested in either supplying the Philippine market with their goods or in sourcing for Philippine items to be carried by the supermarkets they supply in the countries where they work in.  The group visited the food retailers in BGC and capped the day with a side-trip to the American Cemetery (formerly Fort McKinley) where American soldiers MIA during WWII were given a place of honor in view of their sacrifice.
