CONGRESSIONAL HEARING ON PLASTIC BAGS FOR 2018

Cong. Hearing on Plastic Bags on 5 December 2018 under Environment Committee Chairperson Estrellita Suansing and Members of her Committee specifically her husband Horacio Suansing of Sultan Kudarat.  This is a review whether to ban or Continuously regulate the use of plastic bags.

PAGASA PRESENTS ITS POSITION ON PLASTIC BAGS

For the fourth Congress in a row since the 14 th Congress, PAGASA presented its position with regards to the use of plastic bags in supermarkets and its impact on the country’s economy as well as the it’s ecology.  Of course, after various improvements on its position as a result of developments in sustainability worldwide, PAGASA was able to present and submit a more coherent Position Paper to a more receptive Committee on Ecology in Congress headed by its sharp and efficient Chair of the Committee, Congresswoman Estrellita Bito-Onon Suansing of Nueva Ecija.  Among one of the sponsors of this Bill is former pres. & now Pampanga Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (seated beside Ms. Suansing). The decision Of the Committee at this Hearing set on 16 Nov. 2016 seems to lean more towards regulation rather than ban of plastic bags as a solution to the problem of improper disposal of said bags leading eventually towards gradual phase-out of disposable bags in lieu o...

Penalty Charged on Plastic Bags

At the height of a little controversy in implementation and some confusion in execution on the P2 penalty charged to QC customers who do not bring their own reusable bag/s or used plastic bag/s (for retailers to collect and surrender to plastic recyclers) when they shop, GMA 7's Saleema Refran catches up with PAGASA's STC on a Sunday>9/9/12 morning at the Centris Station while the latter was doing some weekend shopping with the family. Discussion centered on the strict compliance of said QC Ordinance in public/wet markets and flea markets (temporary tiangges). The penalty was observed beginning 1 Sept. 2012.

IRR of the Plastic Bag Reduction Ordinance

To follow through on the Public Hearing held by the Quezon City Government regarding its ordinance on the regulated use of plastic bags, staff of the QC Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department invited their consultant, Mr. Christopher L. Sabarez to dialogue with PAGASA's QC Members at Max's Restaurant at the Quezon Circle on 26 July 2012.  Camille Cammayo, Hirene Villanueva and Ronnie Perez of EPWMD were there to answer questions on the Internal Rules & Regulations of said Ordinance effective August 1, 2012.
